What better time to refresh your space than in the spring? To make giving your home new flooring easier, Shaw Flooring is having a special “Refresh Your Space Sale” from April 12 until May 31 on all of their products.
Here are three decorating tips from their design staff on ways to update your home. We’ve added some of our own ideas on how you can take advantage of this sale and give your home a facelift.
1. Everyone seems to be picking a Color of the Year. Shaw has joined Pantone other paint companies by choosing their own color of the year, Gold Rush. Gold Rush is a warm color somewhere between butter and mustard.
Like several of the paint companies, Shaw is moving away from white on white and gray on gray, and instead layering with gold colors. According to Shaw Floors creative director Debbie Hughes, “Gold hues evoke positivity, excitement, and sophistication.”
Get a new custom area rug to go over your hardwood floors. City Tile will custom bind any of their carpets into an area rug to fit the size and style you want.
“Why make do with a pre-made area rug,” said Andrew Young, owner of City Tile, when you can take advantage of this great discount and get an area rug that fits the space you have, with the style you want.”
Try the very contemporary Fierce and Bold pattern, which has an interplay of organic geometric shapes woven into the design. Geometrics are the hottest style in area rugs right now. This pattern is offered in several goldish colors, including Wicker, which is a warm beige, and Soft Glow, which is a creamy white. There are nine other colors available if gold is not your thing.
Pair a Gold Rush carpet with earth-toned furnishings, then throw a few colorful pillows on the couch and an oversized, brightly colored piece of art on the wall to create a fresh, contemporary look.
2. According to Shaw, flooring trends shift much more slowly than fashion or furnishings, so it is worthwhile to invest in a beautiful floor, as it will remain stylish for years to come.
Rich wood floors are always in style, but wood flooring has exploded in the last five years due to their easy care and contemporary look. What is changing is the finish, the trend is toward matte wood floors versus high gloss. The planks are getting wider, and texture is begin added through processes like scraping, and they are being placed in patterns like herringbone and basket-weave designs.
Trinity Lake, a Shaw hardwood floor style, is perfect to use when opting to go gray. This gray toned, lightly scraped, natural red oak hardwood is both beautiful and durable. Pair this flooring with PPG paint’s Color of the Year, Nightwatch, to make a modern, contemporary statement in a den or guest bedroom. Add casual, world-inspired furnishings to construct a relaxing Boho-influenced space.
3. Black and white continues to be loved by design professionals. Make your floor the statement piece in your home with black and white Revival Catalina tile. Honoring a bygone era, this bold floral design can be used on the floor or the wall.
Because it is strong glazed porcelain, you can use it to create curb appeal by covering over the risers of old cement stairs leading to your front door. Add a bold front door color, like bright red to make the whole area pop. Oversized planters with lush plantings placed on either side of the door will make the entrance to your home even more inviting.
With this great sale, let your imagination take you to City Tile, where we can help you find the flooring of your dreams, and make them a reality.
